I have been blogging for a number of years now, and am amazed by the continual growth of the blogging community, and by the friendliness of so many bloggers I know!

Since I started blogging I have met other bloggers in person, online and via all the social media channels and it’s just lovely to share inspiration, passions – and swap ideas and advice too!

Liebster Award

Instagram is one of the ways I love to connect with bloggers, so how lovely to see June from Under The Plum Blossom Tree nominate me for the Liebster Award. June feels like a kindred spirit – a fellow blogger whose love of photography enables her to document the people she loves, the places she goes and the things she sees!

I had only vaguley heard of the Liebster Award, and from a Google search I found that this is an award passed around in the blogging community as a super way of celebrating and connecting with bloggers around the world. The rules vary depending on what you read, but essentially a nominee has a series of questions to answer, then in turn nominates other bloggers for this award. So, here are June’s questions and my answers, followed by my own nominations.

What made you decide to start blogging?

A love of writing (I have been a freelance writer on and off for a number of years), and blogging enabled me to combine that with my passion for photography! My husband is a freelance photographer and his work has constantly inspired me over the years. He documents special family moments for his clients (via his lifestyle photography), so I wanted to do the same for our family – albeit in a slightly different format!

What do you find most challenging about blogging?

Scheduling and planning my posts! I want to be an ‘authentic’ blogger who doesn’t contrive posts, so I like being able to write when I have something worthwhile I want to share! Sometimes family life doesn’t quite allow that to happen! The only exception is the posts which I write in collaboration with small businesses, they are planned and scheduled meticulously!

What is your favourite thing about being a blogger?

Being part of a blogging community and meeting people (in the real world and online) who I wouldn’t ever have had the opportunity to get to know.

What is the story behind your blog name?

I have two gorgeous children and their baby nicknames (even before they were born) were ‘Muff’ and ‘Teacake’ – I can’t remember how these names really came about but they somehow worked and gave my children a little individuality rather than just simply being referred to as ‘the bump’.

What advice do you have for someone who is thinking of starting a blog?

Be true to yourself, write about what you know, write from the heart and decide what niche your blog will fall into – don’t try to be all things to all readers!

What blogs do you like to read?

Makelight – Emily is quite simply an inspiring mother, photographer, maker and blogger!

A quiet Style – Emma has just this, a gorgeous quiet style! Lovely interiors, flowers and photography!

Sarah Green – a wonderfully inspiring blog with gorgeous photography! A true celebration of nature in all its glory!

Coffee or tea?

Coffee – Carte Noire Decaffeinated to be precise!

What is your best photography tip?

Practise, practise, practise – take LOTS of photos as often as you can! I’m still learning and even the best photoraphers admit to taking numerous photos in an attempt to get one they’re happy with. Don’t be fooled into thinking the first photo you take will be perfect, keep experimenting!

Can you share one tip for creating a fabulous Instagram feed like yours?

Thank you for the compliment June! I think it’s about being selective with what you post and developing your style… I’m still working on this but my moodboards tend to have a similar feel, as do my styled shots (I like a bit of negative space!), and I do include a lot of flower photography!

Where do you find inspiration for your art or craft?

Instagram – there really are some amazingly talented people out there!

What are three tools of your trade?

My cameras (iPhone and Fuji), my laptop and my notebook – I’m a bit of an obsessive list writer!

Now for my nominations, the questions remain the same as above… There is no pressure to join in unless you want to! Please remember to acknowledge and link back to the blogger who nominated you (me!) and pass these guidelines on when you blog too!

I nominate… Sarah Green, Block Print Social and Peonies and Poses – amazing and totally different yet wonderfully creative blogs!

    Hi Carol!

I couldn’t agree more with your photography tip – lots of practice! It takes time to train the eye and to learn and know what works for you. And I am of the same mind about being selective with posting to Instagram and developing your style – these work hand in hand and get easier over time. And being true to yourself is great advice for anyone thinking of starting a blog – I’ve also heard it referred to as being your authentic self.

Thanks Carol for accepting the award and passing it on. Happy Blogging!
