Back in March I had the pleasure of attending a special event to mark the official opening of The Mill Restaurant at Millbrook Garden Centre in Gravesend. There were a few celebrations that evening, including a celebration of Millbrook Garden Centre’s 40thanniversary. It was a great evening to celebrate achievements, reminisce and look to the future too!

Sue and Dick Allen originally founded Millbrook, and now their daughters continue the family business. Daughter Tammy is the Managing Director, and Kirsty is the resident artist/designer of all the posters and signage visitors see in the centres.

It all started forty years ago, on 3rd March 1979, when the very first Garden Centre opened in Crowborough. In 1994 a much larger centre opened near Gravesend, and Staplehurst joined the group in March 2013.

Before the Gravesend Garden Centre building work started they even had a full archaeological dig to discover just what the Romans were doing there 2,000 years ago! Some of the relics found can be seen by the tills and exit at Gravesend.

I have visited all three centres both as a customer and to deliver workshops, and they are all quite different but offer the same great customer service and high quality items. They all offer amazing seasonal inspiration for homes (both inside and out!) and still have that family feel at the heart of their business. Here’s to the next 40 years!

If you haven’t been, do pay them a visit! You can find out more information about the Garden Centre itself here.
